Real agronomy*.
Real results.
Agronomy is the science of soil management and crop production and it’s what we live and breathe every day at Seed & Field. As agronomists, we’re not just here to sell products.
Our role, and the place where we’re happiest, is out in the field, working with growers and farmers to get the best performance from their soil and the best possible yield from their crops.

Meet our
Agronomists.
Mike Gordon
I’ve been an Agronomist for over 34 years, specialising in onions, lettuce and brassicas. Leading Seed & Field’s North Field Division, it’s my job to ensure our agronomy team has the resources it needs to deliver the best possible service and solutions.
Gary Graham
I’m a hands-on grower with experience in NFT systems and small block cropping. Personal experience using the products gives me real insights into their efficacy in different cropping programmes. As an Agronomist, I specialise in greens and carrots with a focus on soil science and nutrient sustainability.
Shane Smith
As a Senior Agronomist, I look after key accounts, specialising in potatoes, onions and barley. I also provide high level support on a number of other crops, advising on fertiliser, cultivation and other agronomy services. I’m passionate about innovation and bringing new ideas to our growers in today’s fast moving and demanding environment.
Dean McMiken
I've been with Seed & Field since 2001, becoming a Field Agronomist in 2010. Coming from a farming family, I know what it takes to succeed in the business and I love nothing more than to roll up my sleeves and get out in the field, working with local growers to improve the quality of their crops.
Craig Birch
I joined the Seed & Field agronomy team after running my own horticultural business for 15 years in Pukekohe. I really enjoy getting out and sharing knowledge with our local growers which gives me a good perspective from both a service and customer point of view.
Rob Cox
I began working as an Agronomist in 2008, starting my own independent agronomy consultancy in 2016. I love working with Seed & Field as they share my passion for research and development and taking a holistic approach to all facets of agronomy - from paddock and cultivar selection, through to agrochemical, crop nutrition and crop management strategies.
Lachie Campbell
As Seed & Field's Horticultural Agronomist for the lower North Island, I have plenty of ground to cover. I come from a rural servicing background and managed the Ashley Dene Research Farm at Lincoln University. I also run my own farm in the Manawatu, so I’m able to advise first-hand on agrichemicals, seed and fertiliser for horticulture and general agriculture.
Paul Lysaght
I have been involved in agronomy and crop production for 35 years and particularly enjoy working with growers to help them maximise their outputs. This involves building a close working relationship with growers and a thorough understanding of their farming systems. I take the trust growers put in my team very seriously. It’s a real privilege to have this responsibility and hugely rewarding to see the results in the field.
Duncan McLeod
As an Agronomist for over 25 years, I have expertise across the whole range of crops with specialist focus on potatoes, cereal agronomy and small seed production. I’ve seen a lot of changes over the course of my career, but what never changes is the satisfaction you get from exceeding your growers’ expectations.
Roger Blyth
I have been working with Seed & Field as an agronomist for almost 10 years, specialising in potatoes but also covering a wide range of crops. I gained extensive experience in crop production, working as a grower overseas and that first hand knowledge comes in handy every day on the job.
Nick Proudfoot
I’ve been involved in the horticulture industry for 25 years, initially growing tomatoes, capsicums and eggplant for Foodstuffs NZ. I joined Seed & Field in 2018. It’s a highly collaborative team and really rewarding to help our growers achieve great results.
Philip Picot
I joined Seed & Field in 2006, coming from a background in the rural servicing industry. Managing the Seed Division is a dream role and I’m deeply involved with Seed & Field’s extensive field trial programme. It’s really rewarding to see our growers having success with new varieties of vegetables.
Kenny Wilson
I’ve been working in the horticulture sector for the past 10 years, propagating and raising vegetable seedlings. This practical experience is very useful in my current role, which involves seed testing, quality control and seed treatment. It’s great to be learning on the job as part of a supportive team.
Andrew Culley
35 years in the seed industry has certainly taken me places, keeping up with industry developments with vegetable varieties worldwide. I currently split my time between my consulting role with Seed & Field and running my own farm but I’m always keen to help customers with their planting or advise on seed treatments.
De Adre Hoete
I began my horticulture journey in 2017 and I have worked in a range of areas including importing, planting, crop care, harvesting, post-harvest and export. Agronomy is a career of constant learning and I'm not afraid to challenge myself in improving my knowledge, working with local growers to implement the best horticulture practices.
