Seed & Field has recently expanded its investment into research and development, with the creation of a new R&D Group.
The group is headed by Rob Cox and Steve Slack and has been formed to conduct grower led R & D projects as a service for our growers, agronomy team, and suppliers. Rob is an experienced vegetable agronomist, having most recently run his own independent agronomy company, “In-Depth Agronomy”. Rob has played a significant role in the NZ vegetable industry, serving on several R & D committees, and having regularly been involved in agronomic extension work.
Steve comes to us via Australia having spent the past couple of years managing breeding programs in seedless watermelon and cantaloupe for a bio-tech startup, previously he has worked alongside Rob at “In-Depth Agronomy” as an independent agronomist, and started his career in clover and cocksfoot pasture research at AgResearch. He has extensive research experience with expertise in plant genetics, experimental design, and statistical analysis. Together they aim to conduct commercially focussed research that will allow Seed & Field to provide specialty advice across all facets of agronomy, tailored to the environments that our customers are working in, allowing us to stay in front of any topical issues and developments affecting our industry. They also aim to focus on extension work, with regular grower groups and publications of their research findings to be made freely available to our customers.
